Worship Committee

Responsibilities

  1. Worship
    1. to be aware of the church year and, as necessary, be involved in the planning of special worship services (Maundy Thursday, Easter and Christmas)
    2. to help the congregation develop a greater awareness of the place of worship in Christian life
    3. to be responsible for sanctuary aesthetics, and to arrange for the sanctuary to be decorated at special seasons/times i.e. Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas
    4. Find, train and schedule lay readers
    5. Make recommendations to Session about the duties of the worship elder
    6. Find, train and schedule ushers
    7. To ensure, in conjunction with the Fellowship Committee that there is a person(s) designated and trained to greet newcomers, and to ensure that concern is shown by all for newcomers both before and after the service, and to help integrate them into the life of the congregation
    8. Seek out and develop different initiatives for the provision of worship
    9. In conjunction with the Communications Committee to inform the congregation about worship opportunities/activities through articles and announcements in the Dayspring Dispatch and Family News
    10. Make budget recommendations to the Board of Managers
    11. Arrange any major changes in reconfiguration of the sanctuary in cooperation with the Board of Managers following Session approval. Changes for special events such as pageants and choral nights are not major changes and are made by the groups organizing the special event
  2. Study and Sharing
    1. to participate in studies of various aspects of worship e.g. the sacraments
    2. investigate, recommend, and/or be involved in proposed changes in worship for the benefit of the congregation.
  3. Music
    1. to oversee the music ministry of Dayspring
    2. to provide input to the Human Resources Committee on the job descriptions, salaries, and annual review of the music director and organist/pianist positions
    3. to be responsible for the general oversight of the musical instruments and sound enhancement equipment owned by Dayspring..
    4. oversight of copyright policies

Convener Responsibilities

  1. to call and moderate all meetings
  2. to prepare the agenda
  3. to oversee all activities connected with the committee
  4. to prepare the annual report of the committee for the Annual Congregational meeting

Session Representative Responsibilities

  • to ensure that the activities of the committee are reported to Session at each regular Session meeting
  • to bring items referred to or of importance to the committee back to the committee from Session
